  • Position:                     General Manager, Lang Lang Golf Club
  • Reports to:                 Committee of Management Executive (CoME)
  • Appointment:             Full time staff position
  • Hours of work:           Nominally 38 hours per week
  • Expectation is that the successful candidate will work the hours necessary to successfully achieve key responsibilities including 2 x weekends per month and 5 x public holidays p/a
  • Salary:                         Total remuneration commences at $72.5k p/a (leave loading applies) with salary reviews at 6 mths and thereafter every 12 mths

The fundamental objectives of this position are:

Management: To ensure the effective management of the Lang Lang Golf Club

Key responsibilities

  • To manage the Club’s operations and activities as directed by the CoME, inclusive of, but not limited to:
    • Financial compliance
    • Legal compliance
    • Insurance compliance
    • Employment compliance
    • HR compliance
  • To manage all aspects of the budget as set by CoME and financial functions of the Club
  • To manage all aspects of the bar

Finance: To manage all aspects of the Club’s finances

Key responsibilities

  • To manage all banking and account payments
  • To seek opportunities for reducing expenditure against budget
  • To identify revenue stream improvement strategiesEnsure that finances are up to date (sales are tracked daily, the till is balanced daily, MYOB is updated weekly for sales, bills are paid in a timely manner and recorded in MYOB, cash is banked at least weekly, the bank balance is reconciled periodically, reduce costs, minimise opportunity for fraud)
  • To ensure financial accounts are up to date, including supplier and customer details, and to prepare monthly financial reports, as required, for the CoME
  • To ensure appropriate controls are in place to minimise risk of fraud
  • To manage relationships with suppliers and customers

Administration: To provide effective administration services to the Club

Key responsibilities

  • To provide recording, reporting and financial services to the CoME
  • To provide a risk management function and ensure appropriate insurance coverage
  • To provide accurate and timely payroll services to all staf
  • To maintain an up to date database of all member
  • To provide an effective human resources function

Regulatory compliance: To ensure compliance with all relevant laws

Key responsibilities

  • To ensure the Club complies with all relevant Acts and Regulations relevant to its operations, including but not limited to
    • OH&S legislation
    • Employment legislation and award conditions
    • Equal opportunity and harassment obligations
    • Liquor licensing requirements, and Water hygiene requirement
    • Food hygiene requirements

Promotional activities: To promote the Club and golfing activities it provides

Key responsibilities

  • To seek sponsorship arrangements for the Club and golfing events
  • To collaborate on joint activities and events with neighbouring clubs
  • To implement policies to retain and expand the Club’s membership
  • To provide articles and advertisements for local newspapers and other relevant media
  • To maintain and improve the Club’s website and social media sites

Golf: To work to ensure positive outcomes for the Club and players in Club events

Key responsibilities

  • To seek sponsorship arrangements for the Club and golfing events
  • To collaborate on joint activities and events with neighbouring clubs
  • To implement policies to retain and expand the Club’s membership
  • To meet weekly with LLGC Course Supt

CoM relationship: To effectively support and communicate with the Club’s CoM

Key responsibilities

  • To provide support to the CoME by:
    • Regular attendance at Committee meetings in person or by way of report
    • Timely preparation of reports required by CoME
    • Direct communication on significant issues as they arise with CoME
    • Communications with and between members of the CoM and sub-committees

Qualifications and experience

  • A tertiary qualification in business or management is desirable and/or at least 3 years’ experience in the area of golf club management or general club management
  • Strong management experience
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and financial software packages, in particular, MYOB
  • Basic book keeping and accounting knowledge
  • Comprehensive understanding of golf management systems, in particular, Slice, or the ability to quickly acquire that knowledge
  • To possess a positive ‘can do’ attitude
