The Opportunity

Golf New Zealand is seeking an experienced leader to join our passionate and skilled team as GM – Sector Engagement and Capability. This is a pivotal national role responsible for strengthening the capability, sustainability, and alignment of the golf sector across Aotearoa.

Reporting to the CEO and leading a team, you will work at the heart of the sport partnering with district associations, clubs, facilities, and key stakeholders to shape the future of golf in New Zealand. You will play a critical role in driving sector-wide initiatives, enhancing capability, and championing the value of golf.

With participation at record levels and strong momentum across the game, this is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of New Zealand’s most played sports

 

What you will be doing

  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships across the golf sector, including district associations, clubs, and national bodies, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Developing and growing partnerships with government, tourism, and industry stakeholders to advocate for the value of golf and support participation and tourism growth
  • Leading the development and delivery of sector-wide initiatives aligned to Golf New Zealand’s strategy, working closely with internal teams and external partners
  • Enhancing tools, resources, and support services to strengthen capability across clubs and facilities of all sizes
  • Driving capability-build  in the areas governance, leadership, health & safety, and operational effectiveness
  • Providing sector insights to inform data, technology, and future-focused decision-making
  • Leading and developing a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and alignment across the organisation

 

 What you will bring

  • Exceptional relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Proven senior leadership experience, with a track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong understanding of the sports sector, including governance structures, committees, and stakeholder environments.
  • Experience developing and delivering strategic plans and leading large-scale initiatives or change programmes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage, align, and inspire others around a shared vision.
  • Strategic and operational capability—able to move seamlessly from planning to execution.
  • Commercial and financial acumen, including budgeting and resource management.
  • A passion for sport—and ideally golf—with an understanding of the opportunities and challenges across the sector.
