APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITY

Enjoy being outdoors and working with your hands? Bowral Golf Club is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic person to join our course maintenance team.

Whether you’re starting your working life, considering a career change or already enjoy grounds maintenance, this is an opportunity to develop your skills in a beautiful Southern Highlands setting.

No formal turf qualification is required—bring a willingness to learn and a positive attitude.

An opportunity to grow

Established in 1901, Bowral Golf Club is a historic 18-hole course with a welcoming membership and a team that takes pride in its presentation.

Working under the Course Superintendent and nominated supervisors, you’ll help prepare and maintain the course for members and visitors. You’ll learn how to operate equipment safely, care for playing surfaces and contribute to improvements around the course.

The position can suit either a Groundsman appointment or someone wishing to undertake a formal apprenticeship in sports turf management. The pathway will be discussed with applicants during recruitment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Keeping the course looking its best: mowing, edging, weeding and general grounds maintenance.
  • Preparing for play: raking bunkers, repairing divots and assisting with daily course presentation.
  • Learning practical skills: operating machinery and equipment as you become trained and authorised.
  • Helping with course improvements: assisting with turf renovations, planting, drainage and irrigation work.
  • Looking after our equipment: cleaning tools and machinery, completing basic checks and keeping work areas tidy.
  • Working safely: following instructions and looking out for colleagues, golfers and the environment.

Who we’re looking for

Golf knowledge and previous turf experience are not essential. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable, punctual and ready to learn.
  • Enjoys active, outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Follows instructions and takes care with their work.
  • Works well with others and is courteous to members and visitors.
  • Is comfortable with early starts and rostered weekend duties.
  • Takes pride in seeing a job completed well.

A passion for golf is desirable, as is previous gardening, landscaping or grounds maintenance experience. A driver licence would also be helpful, but is not essential.

If you’re applying for an apprenticeship, you’ll also need a commitment to attending formal training and completing the associated coursework.

Why join Bowral Golf Club?

  • Applicable award rates and conditions, based on the appointment and classification.
  • Membership of Bowral Golf Club.
  • Practical training and guidance from the course team.
  • The opportunity to develop skills in turf care, machinery operation and grounds maintenance.
  • A formal sports turf training pathway if appointed as an apprentice.
  • Varied outdoor work where you can see the results of your efforts.
  • A workplace in the heart of the Southern Highlands.
